Position Summary: Responsible for developing new emulsion polymers ( acrylic , styrene/acrylic and vinyl acetate / acrylic) for coatings and adhesive applications.
The position is the senior member of StanChem Polymer’s laboratory emulsion polymer synthesis team and will report to the R&D Director.
Position will have direct contact with Sales Director and will make visits as required to customers.
The position is responsible to complete two polymer cooks per day and will also have access to a trained emulsion polymer technician.
This position is also responsible for the safe operation of the emulsion polymer synthesis laboratory and adherence to all environmental, health and safety requirements.
Will participate as required in the monthly meeting of the StanChem Emulsion Polymers business team.
Work in the laboratory – ensuring two cooks per day of new emulsion polymers.
Successful track record of developing emulsion polymers for coatings and adhesive applications.
Ability to work in a Stage /Gate process and to keep a number of projects moving through the Stage /Gate process.
Experienced with DOE (Design of Experiments) for next generation emulsions ( in particular acrylics, styrene/acrylics ) for metal , wood , cementitious, stain-blocking , architectural and nonwoven applications.
Be familiar with standard testing and formulation procedures for emulsion polymers in these market areas.
Effective communication skills to interact with OEM customers and Sales Director.
Visit customers as required to give advice regarding formulation and application parameters and performance features for new emulsion polymers.
Effective working relationships with Manufacturing to bring new emulsion polymers from pilot scale to production.
Self-motivated chemist with strong analytical, planning and communication.
College Degree – Chemistry or equivalent.
5 - 10 Years Emulsion Polymers – polymerization techniques (core/shell, single stage), functional monomers (acrylonitrile , AAEM etc ), self – crosslinking etc.
Formulation of emulsion polymers for coatings and adhesive applications.
