RMG has an immediate opening for a Chemist in its corporate lab operations located in Plymouth, Michigan.
Summary of Key responsibilities include:
Execute the technical action plan related to general market directed and/or customer directed product development projects,. The role will involve working within a team of chemist(s) and technician(s), to manage projects to ensure milestones are efficiently reached. This will require experimental planning, project management, research and execution to produce materials that are valuable for specific customers and in the market.
Work closely with Company personnel to determine the most feasible technical approach and experimental plan, along with timing, for projects. Execute the agreed upon technical plan and appropriately manage projects. Perform research on current awareness, design experiments, setup and observe new reactions, troubleshoot processes/formulas, design analytical techniques, write/review SOPs, and other similar activities. This position reports to the Technical Account Manager.
Coordinate with chemists and technicians (includes priority, project assignment, ensure correctness/completeness of work, training, development, goal setting, and performance evaluations) to deliver on customer solutions.
Technical service and technical service development (includes customer need identification, production of samples, coordination of sampling process, customer follow-up/visits, etc.)
Execute agreed upon technical plans related to assigned projects/customers working closely with technical and business personnel (Experimental design, evaluation of new materials, light research, write/review SOPs, troubleshooting process/formulas for new products, etc.)
Work with the Technical Account Manager and peers to set technical project direction and technical action plan
Provide project updates to company personnel , as necessary
Support scale-up/regulatory work related to customers/projects to which they are assigned
Support compliance with regulations including OSHA, MDEQ, and DOT for sampling/commercialization efforts
Summary of Key qualifications include:
Bachelors of Science in Chemistry, polymer science, or related field with
At least 3 years of experience in polymer chemistry. Additional experience in the fields of coatings, adhesives, sealants, elastomers, and/ or foams is a plus.
Working knowledge of polyester and/ or polyurethane chemistry and synthesis techniques
Experience with coating, adhesive, and/ or foam product testing methods (such as ASTM), and analytical interpretation of results
Product development with a disciplined approach and a heavy focus on milestones and timing
The successful candidate will possess: strong communication, computer, and organizational skills with a proven track record of leading teams, working independently, as well as within a team environment.
