BASF Colors & Effects is looking for a Research Scientist, who will be responsible for providing plant support for the Peekskill and North Charleston sites. They will also be responsible for ensuring plant support targets are met and for planning and execution technology projects at the three US based production plants.
The Research Scientist will lead the technical development of high performance effect pigments for specific applications and markets, such as coating, cosmetics, plastics, and printing inks, as well as perform complex research assignments by establishing priorities, time milestones, and completion dates for projects. The successful applicant will maintain documentation for support of product progress through the developmental stage gate process, communicate progress of projects with group members, internal customers and management, and secure and maintain intellectual property by filing of appropriate records of invention and patent applications.
The Research Scientist will also scout out technology opportunities and identify potential materials for new effects and applications (e.g. nanostructured materials). Interface with global research units, experts in application & technical centers and marketing teams in creating new ideas and developing products or processes.
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Bachelor's degree and/or advanced degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
Inorganic chemistry specialization is preferred
Inorganic chemistry expertise is an advantageous.
Preferred technical skills include hands-on expertise in the synthesis of advanced functional materials (e.g. nanoparticles, structured composites) and thorough experimental knowledge of fine particles, surface and inorganic materials chemistry.
Experience of the coatings and color cosmetics industries is desirable.
Strong quality and safety orientation.
Demonstrated ability to set up and carry out experimental programs and lead technology projects.
Ability to apply both fundamental principles and creativity to the development and improvement of products and technology.
Excellent experimentation and superior problem-solving skills.
Ability to interpret chemical & physical analytical data and coloristic data. Analyze interaction between synthesis variables, process conditions and final coloristic properties.
