The Coating Lab Prep Technician effectively assures manufacturing compliance to Thorlabs ISO9001 and MIL-PRF-13830B quality standards protecting customers. The Prep Technician will perform visual inspection of precision parts and make quick, accurate pass/fail decisions on many types of optics including filters, mirrors, prisms, and lenses in preparation for coating. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other ThorLabs locations.
Essential Job Functionsinclude the following, but are not limited to:
Identify non-conformances of in-process components through established inspection methods.
Ability to perform extremely detailed visual inspections on intricate and delicate parts, occasionally, performed under microscopes.
Perform inspections efficiently with attention to detail.
Gather tooling and ensure cleanliness in conjunction with Engineer and Maintenance.
Load/Unload inspected parts into tooling.
Properly package unloaded parts.
Report measurement metrics to keep track of efficiency and quality using spreadsheets.
Work professionally within a team environment.
Measure and compare mechanical dimensions to manufacturing drawings for proper loading.
Interact with Business Unit Quality Department, as needed.
Assist with product flow through the department.
Minimum 2 years of experience in quality control function in a manufacturing environment preferred.
High School Diploma or equivalent or equivalent work experience
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Good verbal and written communication skills to operate in both individual and team environments.
Manual dexterity to handle small parts with tweezers.
Capable of reading mechanical drawings and interpret dimensional tolerances.
Adaptable to process and procedure changes.
Capacity to convert from imperial to metric measurements.
Ability to meet department standards for productivity and quality.
Computer literacy using MS Office, Outlook.
High attention to detail.
